Avoiding annoying additives
' We Don't Want Them' The Food Commission believes that cosmetic additives have no business in our food. ' We Don't Need Them' The Food Commission exposes the excessive use of additives, such as the over-use of artificial sweeteners in children's drinks, the adulteration of meat with colourings, phosphates and water, and the hidden sulphites in wine. We believe additives are greatly over-used in the food industry, in order to sell low-nutrient foods and to help highly processed foods compete against fresh more wholesome foods. Additives are seen by some as no better than 'legalised fraud' as they disguise the true nature of a product, making dull foods look brightly coloured, enhancing the taste by adding flavourings and flavour boosters, and using preservatives to make old food appear fresh.
