...and the award goes to: Kellogg's Real Fruit Winders!

The Children's Food Awards

Everyone knows the importance of eating enough fruit and veg - but getting children to eat enough can be difficult, especially once their tastebuds have grown accustomed to the high doses of sugar routinely added to most children's foods.

These Kellogg's Real Fruit Winders look like the perfect solution - after all, they're 'real fruit' - but take a closer look at the ingredients and another story unfolds.

The parents on The Parents Jury had clearly read the small print on these brightly coloured packages and were quick to complain about them. See what they said below:

They're more like tooth-rotting sugar than fruit! It feels like they're on TV all day, every day when kids' TV is on!!
mother of two, from London

They're full of sugar.
mother of three, from Harpenden in Hertfordshire

They're called 'real fruit' but they contain hydrogenated oil and additives.
mother from Muswell Hill in London

The advert implies it's just like fruit and is good for you. I'm concerned this may reduce the consumption of proper fruit.
mother of three, from Bournemouth in Dorset

On TV and in all supermarkets this fruity snack contains high amounts of sugar. Children eating them at morning break still have it stuck to their teeth at tea-time!
mother of one, from Wickford in Essex

It's too high in sugar!
mother of two, from Southampton

Totally gooey and full of sugar.
mother of two, from Chelmsford in Essex

Contains sugar and it's very sticky and gooey on the teeth. It's often advertised during children's programmes on TV.
mother of two children, from Swindon in Wiltshire

Kellogg's Real Fruit Winders are absolutely awful. People think they are healthy because it says 'fruit'!

Expert opinion

Kellogg's Real Fruit Winders do contain real fruit - but this has been processed and supplemented with starch, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil and other ingredients with little nutritional value. The package above boasts that it 'contains over 50% real fruit' but neglects to mention that each fruit winder is 47% pure sugar! If you want your children to eat fruit, give them real fruit.
